Mississippi River Center attraction may floor you
If you haven't been to the Mississippi River Visitor Center in the lobby of the Science Museum of Minnesota, or if it's been awhile since you visited, there's a new attraction this is literally flooring people.

Ranger Carrie Andresen says the new aerial photo on the floor outside the center covers the MNRRA corridor from Dayton to Hastings. Once visitors discover what it is, they drop to their knees on the large photograph and try to find their homes, businesses or similar landmarks.

The center also has a great selection of river related merchandise including books and toys. They include a small towboat and barges in a bag.

The MNRRA corridor, pictured in the map, encloses more than 54,000 acres and 72 miles of river. The national park is a narrow corridor of land on either side of the Mississippi from Dayton, Minn., to just past Hastings, Minn. Only 35 acres of the park are owned by the Park Service.

The Mississippi River Visitor Center is open seven days a week and is always free. National Park Rangers and volunteers are on hand to guide visitors through the map or other visual explorations of the entire Mississippi River.
